Just Keep

Dory from Finding Nemo is famous for the phrase “Just Keep Swimming”

I think she had it wrong, I think the key to inner life happiness is to

Just

Spinning

Life is throwing me a curve ball. So I’m doing what makes me happy for a day or so. Cuddles with my wonderful boys (both hamster shaped and human) and with my new girlies whom I’ll post about later when life, well when life just gets back to normal for a day or two. ProTip: Watching Rats try and work out what to do with a hard boiled egg with the shell still on= priceless.

And Spinning.

Spinning for me is so much more meditative than knitting or spinning. In a fit of terrible luck my most commonly used needle (5mm) broke yesterday. It was a cheap Chinese one, part of the large sets on Ebay for £20 or so, I think I’ve had it around 4 years. It didn’t have a bad life, but replacing it is out of the question at the moment while I’m looking for work. I also broke a 4mm plastic crochet hook this morning although luckily that one was a freebie. So I chose to spin today.

This is some Grey Norwegian that came with my wheel nearly 2.5 years ago. I am still very much a beginning spinner and I must say I don’t think I will buy this fibre again. I found it incredibly sticky in a bad way. Not sure if the storage method I used (in the plastic bags it came in) caused it to felt or not but it sure felt like I had to pull very hard to get the fibres to separate every step of the way, and when the fibre split because I’d gone too thin it was incredibly hard to get it to reattach again, and I’m not spinning angel hair here! I’m currently however working on some white Norwegian and it’s an absolute dream to spin so not quite sure why I had such troubles.

Troubles aside, sometimes you’ve just go to keep on spinning.

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
