Year of Projects

As we’re nearly at the 6 month mark It’s time to make some tactical substitutions. Personally I can’t even believe we’re nearly halfway through the year, and I’m over halfway through my year probation at work. I’ll have been there 8 months on the 1st of June; scary!

Anyway as a quick reminder, here is the DONE list!

DONE!

Unfortunately getting the chop from this years YOP are,

1. Wisteria. I wound the yarn for this a few weeks ago and started it. Sadly I’m not as in love with the pattern as I thought I was. This is a shame as it’s actually a pattern I paid for but I may still want to make it one day.

2. Celestine. Still a really nice idea, and may crop up as a secondary project at some point but really not for now; there are things I’d much rather knit.

3.  Nip and Nora rats. One day I will make these; but I’ve really gone off soft toys lately; just me.

4.  Heart of Wales shawl. Actually really just a substitution for Across the Beach. The only real reason being I have the yarn and beads for Across the beach and really want to get started with that sooner rather than later!

So What’s replacing them?

1. Durrow.

Look at those Sleeves in Progress! I already have the body of this knitted and I’m part way through the sleeves. I figured the only way I will ever finish this is to make it a year of projects item! Sleeves are being knitted two at a time, so no worries about mistakes like last time.

2. Saxon

This is a fascinating design. It’s made from 10 strips of stocking stitch, which are then woven together at the end. I want to do mine in a rainbow sequence, with one strip of black one side and a strip of white the other.

3. Across The Beach

I promised that there would be lace this year; and this is going to be it. It’s going to be in that Pearl lace weight I bought at Get Knitted a few months ago.

4. Celestarium.

I worked out that I absolutely could not wait for next year to get started on this so it had to come onto the list right now.

Which now makes my list look like this!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
