Long Time no Speak

I’ve been thinking about posting for a long time but I’ve always been too “too”. Too tired, Too Sad, too Grumpy, too angry. I do see this blog as how I present to the outside world and there are many parts I feel I have to keep hidden away. There are many parts I just don’t want to start to write, because I feel I would never stop.

Basically work and health have been rubbish lately and I’d love a month of saying “fuck it!” to the world and hiding. It’s not going to happen though, so on we go with the show.

I finished my February Socks

Pattern – Corriolis Effect Socks. Yarn – I want to say Trekking XXL or Opal, long lost ball band and deep stash.

Just to prove there’s 2! These are very comfy and have already been worn about twice a week. As soon as they’re out of the washer and dried they’re back on my feet.

I made another pair of The Oncoming Storm mitts. These are for my Brother In Law, who hits the milestone birthday of 16 this month. He really likes Dr Who, and I knitted his sister (my sister in law) a pair in yellow for Christmas, he mentioned at the time he quite fancied a pair himself. I made them a bit longer as he has long hands and fingers. I do love Stylecraft Special DK. Knits up well and I know they’ll cope with the wet, mud and repeated washings that happen with Tom’s active lifestyle.

The camera really struggled with the colours on this and the next Finished Object. This is a dishcloth in Peaches and Cream. It’s a recent export to this county, and some of the brighter colours were hard to find. When I was buying the yarn for the Dr Who Scarf a few balls happened to fall into my basket. This is the scented type. A unique novelty, although this smells a bit of “old lady” perfume. I think I’d prefer to have plain yarn in the future and add scent myself.

The pattern is Fishermans Rib. Knit 1, Knit 1 below. Produces a really nice fabric and very theraputic to knit.

To show how really far behind I am here’s March’s socks too! The pattern for these is “Lord What Fools” and these are in Wendy Roam Fusion. These are for my Mum for mothers day. Again I’ve had real trouble catching the right colours on these. A muted rainbow might be the best way to describe them. They’re lovely and I really love my Mum otherwise I would keep them in a heart beat!

The ribbing down the side is offset my a lovely wrap every few rows creating a kind of lattice effect. I modified this a little. After the wrap I knit the same amount of ribbing rounds just to make the leg a little longer.

And my current WIP – A doctor who scarf. First of two so I’ve got a fair way to go!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from around the stem

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud
