Thinking

Today we went through the craft room – as it had got pretty messy in the last few months and I was again struck by HOW MUCH YARN I own. So I’ve made a list of things I would like to make by the end of 2015; which hopefully I will stick to!

  • 12 pairs of Socks!

I have a huge queue of sock patterns – 51 pairs in total and luckily I have a huge stash of sock yarn as well 33 balls! I’m hoping to continue on with the Year of Socks project, where I make a pair a month as I’ve really enjoyed having more hand knit socks for me!

  • 10 Stitch Blanket

By the end of the year I’ll have at least 13 odd balls of sock wool, and more to come as I continue through the year. I normally have at least 20g left over – and by the end of 2015 (eep!) I’ll have at least 500g. My aim is to start this over Christmas and get caught up by February, after that I want to add the scraps as I finish the socks.

Sweaters

Rhys has asked for this Cardi from the latest Issue of Simply Knitting. It’s Tunisian Crochet on a jumper scale – I’ve done the skill, but never on this scale before. I have some Kirkdale Aran I bought from Aldi last year that would be perfect for this.

  • ?? For me.

A jumper for me? Wonderwool tradition dictates I knit myself something. First year it was Sylvi, Second year Adams’ Rib bodywarmwer and last year was my Celestarium. 2015 I’m hoping for a jumper for me. Tiny confession time here – I’m dieting, so far I’m down 18lbs and feeling fab. I have a long way to go, but am sure I can be at my goal by Wonderwool. Which means smaller sweaters for me. I’m not sure what pattern I want to use yet, but I’m pretty sure I want to use some wool I bought last year.

Shawls

A must must make by Feb 2016 as I really want to give it to our Canadian Friend by then. This is going to be cast on after Malgven is finished.

I have the yarn (Easy Knits Sparkle in Zora) and the hook all ready to go, bought at the second year of Wonderwool. Sat in the stash way to long. This will be started after I finish the Maple Leaf Shawl..

Again Yarn (Pearl yarn!) and beads bought ages ago, no reason to have sat in stash this long.

I have some beautiful Rainbow Mini Mochi that I’m desperate to try with this pattern, just like the lady from last years Sewing Bee!

Misc

How Wonderful and cheery will these be?

  • Mini Cas

Several years ago I made a large dragon for Rhys, based on one of his characters Cas. He’d like a new one to take with us to Canada in Feb 2016 so I’d better get on that too!

Hopefully whenever I’m in doubt as for what to cast on next I can come back and reference this list and remind myself!

Have you got a list sorted for 2015 yet?

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
