June Wrap Up–July Goals!

June has flown by; as it always does but this year just seems to have gone so much faster than most.
I am fairly happy with how successful I have been with this months goals - I achieved a lot more than I expected too.

My monthly tradition of socks is still going strong. At the moment I'm 6 for 6; and along with the 13 pairs I made last year my sock draw is looking reasonably healthy. This month I completed a pair of plain socks as the month was drawing to a close and I didn't fancy cables. The Fugue Socks are going to be on my needles, but I need to make some significant modifications as 72 stitches is just far too large for me.

I did finish spinning the merino and plying it. The yarn ended up as thick and thin, but mostly chunky yarn. It was the first real yarn I've spun in a long time and the learning curve at returning to the wheel is evident. It's rekindled my love for spinning, and the reminder that I can use up my "Good" fibre and create something nice; even if it's not what I was initially hoping for.

12 Zoom loom Squares leapt off the mini loom this month as well. It's very nice seeing the small box of sock yarn eroding, even if I am adding a ball to it with each pair of socks I finish!

I have managed to remove the albatross around my neck this month as well by Finishing Cas Dragon. I love Heidi Bears patterns, but with a 2.5mm hook and slippy laceweight yarn I must admit I hated hated hated making this. I'll soon get to see if it was the pattern or the yarn because I've been talked into making one for my Nephews birthday - in August.

Complete a set of 5 colours on Annalise's Blanket. I've very sadly not picked this up at all. I'm thinking that this might be the project that comes with me in the car on the way to my Mums at the end of this week as I could probably get a fair few rows in on the way.

Finish Chart 1 of the dragon shawl. - This hasn't had a look in at all. I've worked up a practise swatch with non fuzzy larger yarn and needles so I can actually see what I'm doing.

I’m also participating in Tour De Fleece this year – but no major goals for yardage and the like. I’m taking my wheel up with me and a few knitting/crochet projects. I’m taking Whippoorwill, my July socks and Annalise’s blanket. When I’m at Mums I’m going to grab the bits for Morgan’s Dragon and start that.

This drop spindle might have fallen into my shopping cart as well tonight after some bad job news (passed up again for promotion – didn’t even get an interview. Very pissed off!) but yummy spindles and fibre sort of make up for it!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
