Welcome back!

It's been a good few years since I wrote here on this blog. Throughout 2020 I've had thoughts of dusting it off and starting again, and here I am. If it sticks; I'm not sure - but I'd like to try.

What's happened since 2018? Quite a bit really, in October 2018 I got a promotion at work, that involved a lot of travelling and in May 2019 we bought our first home, finally getting off the rental market. We've done a lot of work on the house - and I might do a post all about that at some point in the future. We've already experienced some of the "bigger" home owner things - like needing a new boiler as well as the smaller things like decorating. We've both been lucky during 2020 as we're able to work from home, and although my job has been busier than ever we've not had to suffer through furlough or redundancies. I've also been much happier to weather this storm in our own home, rather than our last rented place! 2020 also had it's sad moments; we lost my beloved Gran in April (not from the dreaded C word thank goodness) and I miss her every day. We also had our holiday to Canada cancelled, as I spent my 30th Birthday in lockdown - although I was fortunate enough to be able to see my parents.

Craft wise, I'm still knitting and crocheting and occasionally spinning, weaving and sewing. I'm hoping to do a 2020 recap post in the coming days as I'm trying to squeeze in one more finished object!

I want to set some goals or intentions for 2021.

1. Finish/complete my Scheepjes CAL sets.

This involves finishing off the 2020 CAL - I have about 20 rounds left to go. I also have the Ubuntu CAL kit; that will probably need frogging and restarting as I guess my tension has changed quite a bit and I have the Hygee kit (two actually!) that I'd like to make for my Mum for something. If I start that one first, it might be a good Mother's day present.

2. More yarn out than in

Again this is a regular goal and in the past few years I have been actually quite good at reducing the amount that comes in; but I've also knitted less than in previous years too so it's often evened out.

3. Stop biting my nails

Okay - not a yarn one, but I want to try really hard with this one this year!

4. Overpay the mortgage.

I'd love to make a bit more of dent in overpaying the mortgage this year! This won't be a finance blog of course, but I may throw in bits and pieces here and there. Our fix comes up this year - and it would be nice to see that number go down even more!

5. Spin something and weave something

My poor neglected wheel and loom(s) were abandoned for other things -

I think I'll leave you with my favourite pair of socks I've made in 2019 (as 2020 will have a wrap up post! I'm not sure if Blogger will post it as a link if so - WARNING it will be to Ravelry!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from around the stem

2016 Round Up!

So a bit late, but better late then never for a round up! 2016 has been a year; there's been a few diamonds in the rough and a few wonderful people who've gotten me through but overall wowza, what a year. The blueberry Waffles hat from Daughter of a Shepherd - bottom right has has some great wear too! Socks  This year I really changed up how I do socks. I started

Sad week

We’re not having a very good week here in Gloucester. Sunday I was poorly and had to phone into work sick (I’m much better now) and then on Monday we had to have our oldest hamster put to sleep.  He’d been going downhill for the last few days, and when I got home from work on Monday, it wasn’t good, so the kindest thing to do was take him and have him humanely put to sleep, it would only have been a few hours if we’d have left him naturally anyway- best to put him out of his suffering. So then the next day we went back with Rommie the rat. She’s been having real trouble with balance, and she’s got so skinny even though she’s eating. The vet thinks she’s blind, and that it may be a brain tumour or an abscess on her brain. The only way to tell would be an MRI, and the best that could tell us is that there was something there; with a cat or dog there would be options but she’s a small animal and she’s old- Plus at the moment I wouldn’t be convinced that she’d make it through the anaes
