Living Room

At least one room in the house is now sorted. My apologies that it's still a little messy in here, especially the coffee table and the spare sofa (which is an Ikea Solasta that becomes a Sofa Bed) but exam revision has taken over from unpacking and the tidying is all being left to the wonderful Dragonboy who is working a full 40 hours a week currently. This is the view from our door. Ludlow's cage is down to the left and Attie on the right of the sofa bed.
This is the left hand side of the room from the door. You can just see Dragonboys desk and my (very messy!) sofa. I am trying to be far better about what stays on the sofa. It's often been piles and piles of coursework in previous houses. Not so good to turf off when people want to sit down.

See what I mean about messy! It is nice though to have a set up where I can chat to Rhys and he's not over the other side of the room like he was in the old flat!

Me and Dragon boy have been together for 3.5 years now, and it's certainly true when they tell you that making Ikea furniture makes or breaks a relationship. I've never had any ikea stuff before but I am very impressed by the TV unit. It fits all of our games (right hand side) and DVDS (Left hand side) without any problems and there's enough room for the Wii, Xbox, N64, Dreamcast, Media Drive, Virgin box and DVD player to fit comfortably. The only thing I'm slightly disappointed about with this place is that my bookshelf is too wide to sit in the alcove there so it has to go sideways. Dragonboy is happy because he can put his shelf of dragons up and they're on the right hand side of the TV to balance that out.

The ashes of Simba and Guthrie, our two late hamsters sit on top of the TV unit with photos in a picture frame. In the middle is a peacock tail style candle holder that my friend from my first job bought me and it just looks spectacular.

All in all I am in LOVE with this room. Over the summer I plan to crochet a throw for both sofas in the sandy brown, dark brown and teal of the curtains. I'm going to do it in cotton so it can be machine washed and dried and not to warm for the summer, or winter when we have the central heat on (Yes! A winter with central heating, I am so excited!). I think that will be the final thing that this room needs to just finish it off and make it perfect.

Note needed here that I am not an interior designer nor do I play one on TV. *I* think this looks good, but I may be slightly blind and have no eye for colour.

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
