Projects projects everywhere

Normally by knitting nature I’m pretty monogamous; this month I seem to be anything but.

Currently on the needles, 2 pairs of Socks for Rhys. I’m knitting 2 at a time (2AAT) and toe up. One of the two is Superba Bamboo and the second is made of Regia. This great plan means I didn’t have to divide my ball into two, but instead of second sock syndrome I have second half of each pair syndrome. I’m not even up to turning the heel yet. Luckily for me my week has between 4 and 6 hours of Knit N Natter each week, so I’m chugging along steadily and I know I will get there in the end.

Second project that’s on the needles is a baby cardigan for a little boy. I know of no one who is having a little boy, or even of anyone who is due to give birth within the next 6 months but I’ve been suckered in by very tiny, very wee baby things that are awfully sweet. This is a pattern of my own improvising using the Sheep Yoke cardigan to get my increases right for the Yoke and then using the Owl cable pattern for two cables down the side. The marled yarn is 100% acrylic and really really soft, but marled is never very good for cables. I’m hoping with some hand embroidered eyes it’ll pop. Fingers crossed I can get this one done tonight, I’m on button band 1. Just one more and 2 sleeves to go.

A crochet jumper I’m trying to achieve tension for which is being really really difficult. There is no picture of this yet. It is a pitiful swatch, or not even a true swatch yet. I may have bitten off more than I can chew.

Other projects I want to cast on for desperately include a version of the Sheep Yoke cardigan with colour work owls on it. A pair of Socks for me, using the Mojo pattern, some ickle baby hats to match the mountain of ickle baby things I’ve been making. Spite which is a very cute young girl sweater dress.  The infamous Beekeepers Quilt is also featuring in here. I have dreams upon dreams of Hexipuffs, though have yet to knit a single one. My Little Pony Friendship is Magic inspired Knitwear, including some baby jumpers and a blanket concept. A very cute cabled baby jumper pattern I bought at the wool shop a few weeks ago. My list never ever seems to end at the moment.

Also the most important breakthrough of the year. I showed Rhys Durrow last night when we were talking about sweater vests, my desire to knit one for him and how cute he’d look. He disagreed, and then I said “I love the look of Durrow, even though it’s a jumper, but I doubt you’ll wear that right?”

He turned round and said. “I like that. I would wear that. Make me that”.

It’s only taken 3.75 years but I’ve finally found him a knitted jumper he would wear! I think that’s got to be on my list of knitting to do before Christmas.

Of course he’s a skinny git so I’ll need to somehow work down the pattern to fit his tiny 35 inch chest. No I’m not jealous at all. Nope, >_< I’m sure somehow somewhere I’ll be able to work out the maths, but not today. Oh no not today.

In the next few days I’m going to do a few FO posts, get up to date as I have not blogged any FOs on here ever. In 2012 I want to make this blog a memory of everything I have knitted during the year. I have got better in 2011 about putting things on Ravelry, I want to get better at using this too.

Rommie and Tiffany think that that is just far too much effort mummy. Day times are nap times.

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
