Winter Ennui

P1010122

Scarf with Nordic pattern on it; Gonna be frogged/binned soon. Just not digging the thickness of it. Might try with a slip stitch pattern maybe but again; not sure.

Finished Socks for Rhys! Don’t think he’s worn them yet. Standard toe up pattern, 2.5mm needles.

More dishcloths for my mum. Standard (UK) Treble crochet increased circle. Simples

Top Down 2 at a time Jaywalkers. I’ve so far got to the turning of the heel. Jaywalker is designed for DPN, and singularly. Turning the heels two at a time and on magic loop is proving a little tricky for my fragile brain at the moment. I *will* get back to them soon because as soon as the gusset decreases are done it’s easy street. Look at how awesome the striping is!

These next two are part of my Granny Square blanket. There’s 18 rounds in each. I’m going to have 9 squares in total. It’s my scrap-gahn memory blanket out of all of the odds and ends of double knitting. It’s a long term project so I’ll be finished next year sometime; I need a bit more double knitting but I want to do it out of stash. I’ve also got a Sock Weight one going which is smaller circles.

You can’t see it too well but another crocheted hat. White with a green brim and potentially a white flower at some point in the future.

More importantly we’ve got our Christmas decorations up! This is our TV unit which takes the place of a hearth in a traditional house. I love that ours has a big display shelf on top. I think the Merry Christmas banner is my favourite decoration in the whole house; though the tree looks pretty spiffy too. We bought all new decorations this year. There’s also two tiny red sparkle deer up by the light up tree which just frames it beautifully. All presents are now wrapped (with the exception of one I have to finish up) and are under the tree! I love this time before they get split into different bags to go to different families etc

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
