UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain.

Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.

Bathroom:

Before

So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from around the stem of the basin and scrubbed the taps. The sink taps have basically been grimy ever since we moved in. They are stained to buggery. When I did the bathroom last time I used a baking powder and water combo to get some of the grub up. This time I used some Barkeepers Friend (found it in Wilkos) and they came up better. A few more goes and they might actually be silver again. They were black on the tops when we moved in. No fooling black; I really don’t know why. The rest of the tap is silver as you can see.

Yes that is a cocktail shaker on the side of the bath, Yes it should live there. My shower broke in February. My landlord has been promising to fix it since February; it was marginally liveable with as long as you take short showers. Landlord visited just over 2 weeks ago; made the shower even more fucked then told me it was fucked. I said “I know, please fix it” they said “We’ll be back next week- it’s such a pain travelling 20 miles to you each time”. I refrained from hitting them around the head and telling them the nearest DIY shop was less than 2 miles away and they could buy one (exactly the same as ours) for £50 and fix it today and not HAVE to come back. Alas they do not possess my strength of obvious knowledge and left and have not come back or phoned me yet to tell me exactly when they are putting in my new shower. So I now have to have a bath and use the cocktail shaker to pour water over my head. Big Blue Box is overflow toiletries and gift sets etc from Christmas and Birthdays.

Before

Tons of stuff in here. Just, well actually just because I think. Some of it was stuff that got shoved in bags to be “packed” and some of it was stuff that got “cleaned” out of the living room. Plus 3 boxes of books; seriously 3! Also Christmas decorations and my other half’s coursework from Uni. Everything was dug out and binned or had homes found for it. There was stuff we really shouldn’t have kept and there were things we’ve been searching for for ages.

After

Container at the back is paint for the house. This is actually the only cupboard in the house apart from the kind of pantry in the kitchen so this is where the landlord put stuff. Green bag is my tent, blue bag for life contains the teddy bear mattress topper; far too hot for summer. The fan box and Printer box are there in preparation for when we move. My archery quiver and arrow tube are now hung off the floor and the empty rucksack is hung up for when I need it like if I want to take my laptop to work.

Spare Room

Probably the easiest of them all to be honest!

Before

Okay, so excusing Laundy mountain and the box I moved in there (the box housed the bits of wood for the furniture we assembled Saturday) it wasn’t *too* bad. Maybe about an hour tops of cleaning and putting everything away. This tends to be the room I do photography in because the craft room was too messy so there was yarn and F.O’s in here too.

After

Bed stripped and in the wash; actually having room to put the clothes horse up. Laptop in tehre for music purposes. The box contains clean fresh towels and the tube on the bed is a Christmas Present (that was buried in the cupboard of doom!) for a friend who is actually coming to stay this month!

Today was actually harder work than I thought and I also got a few loads of washing through as well. I’ve ordered of Ebay 18 pairs of socks and when those arrive I’ll be throwing out all of my old ones (apart from hand knit of course!) because I dare say 90% of my laundry is socks at the moment and I’m not sure I have a matching pair in the house anymore. Depressing and definitly not grown up!

Living Room tomorrow. 4 rooms down, 2 more to go.

Comments

  1. Homeowners looking for discount countertops will find these stones a great alternative. The only difference with the high-grade is that that they contain more minerals and stones apart from granite. Even if it’s not entirely pure granite, it really is still guaranteed to possibly be durable.

  2. You should be on those house make overs programme, your ruthless, but great job.

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud
