New Home

Things are very slowly starting to come together. Crappy late night pictures, and yes the walls will be painted before too long- I’ve even got my tester pots ready!

There’s a clock above the TV unit

(which is now slightly off centre thanks to the virgin guy not giving us enough cable; we were out when he came and my FIL was here, so obviously he didn’t know where it was going to go. We also don’t have our phone number written down either!)

I’m itching to go for a jollie on my new wheels; it’s a Pashley Picador and really needs a name, that picture makes my heart sing as well.

I have a new little nook to snuggle into for the evening- the blanket was made by a good friend- it’s a cornered granny square, an inside joke that makes me smile every time I see it draped over the back of my chair- suite courtesy of my mother-in-law.

This little collection over the fireplace makes me so very very happy. I love my nauticals; and this way they can be part of the room without taking over.

All of our bits are now here. Mostly in the kitchen and in the second half of the living room it must be said! Tonight there’s even a whole van load left outside.

I think the worst part of moving is when your in limbo; the house you’ve moved into doesn’t yet feel like home; last night was the first night we spent sleeping in the bedroom (a long tale of everyone involved in the move having a personal tragedy this week- the man and van got stuck in Scotland the night before they were supposed to move us) and we both commented that it felt like staying in a hotel; though not a very good one xD yet our old place no longer feels like home either. Incredibly sad shutting it up for the last time today. My fella will see it again (he’s staying there until the 5th when he can move into his flatshare) but I won’t. It’s bye to Yarnia and the life we built there for the last 18 months and the last 4 years we spent in Gloucester.

Start of a new chapter and all that- new job starts on Monday (scary!) and our nephew is being christened on Sunday; so a chance to see the rest of the family we’ve not seen yet.

Only problem- All my yarn is still packed!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
