YOP- Week 10

It seems I am not very good at this whole keeping track of things does it? I’ve not picked up hook or needle for a WEEK now. It’s getting a wee bit depressing, the problem being that there is *so* much to do. Most of my knitting is still in boxes scattered all the way through the house; we finally finished bringing the last bits home on Friday. Yesterday was filled with sorting things out at the house, going round and getting furniture off relatives while we still had the van (Cedar chest! Dining Chairs! I love my OH’s family) and then today is my nephews christening. Which probably explains why I’m writing this sat on the bathroom floor with hair dye in. After I’ve dyed and dried I have to find out which box exactly the christening present and card is in. I know where the jumper is, but not the book or the card.

I need to convince the OH to help me re assemble the rat cage. Because the babies are babies they’ve taken great delight in wriggling through the vertical bars in the current cage and escaping! Well, I say escaping- they always have a wander round on the top and go back in. It’s just a matter of time though before they decide that the humans cage (or living room in laymans terms!) is so much more fun then their cage and don’t try to work their way back in. We’ll sell on the cage though; it would be perfect for someone who has grown up rats and not littlies like ours. Plus it was a “travel cage” even though it’s HUGE! but it did it’s purpose for us and our main cage is bigger.

Tomorrow I start work; and I’ve got to say I’m a bit nervous. Mostly- I must admit- about the commute not the actual job! I’m sure once I’m there I’ll start panicking about that bit but for now it’s how on earth I get there. We’ve driven it in the van several times and I’ve tried to work out where I’ll detour off the road onto a cycle route but eep! Plus I’m not exactly the most experienced cyclist in the world, nor the fittest. I’d say that having a test run on the trike on Wednesday when we picked it up was the first time I’d cycled in nearly 5 years. Now I’m hoping to do 8 miles a day on her! I think I might be slightly mental; though I’ve deliberately not looked up the bus routes yet because I really want to give this a go.

Isn’t she a beauty!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from around the stem

Sad week

We’re not having a very good week here in Gloucester. Sunday I was poorly and had to phone into work sick (I’m much better now) and then on Monday we had to have our oldest hamster put to sleep.  He’d been going downhill for the last few days, and when I got home from work on Monday, it wasn’t good, so the kindest thing to do was take him and have him humanely put to sleep, it would only have been a few hours if we’d have left him naturally anyway- best to put him out of his suffering. So then the next day we went back with Rommie the rat. She’s been having real trouble with balance, and she’s got so skinny even though she’s eating. The vet thinks she’s blind, and that it may be a brain tumour or an abscess on her brain. The only way to tell would be an MRI, and the best that could tell us is that there was something there; with a cat or dog there would be options but she’s a small animal and she’s old- Plus at the moment I wouldn’t be convinced that she’d make it through the anaes

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud
