Marathon Sunday

This week I’ve been trying to fight with my inner monogamous knitter. Admitedly; she doesn’t rear her head very often. I’m flighty and indescisive by nature with my knitting and I’m definitly more of a process knitter than a product one.

Of course the things I want to knit are not the things I should be knitting.

These last few days I’ve been forcing myself to work on my Dads jumper. I have about 30 more rows before I can bind off for the body. My aim is to have that and the cuffs for the sleeves done before Saturday so I can knit them at knit and natter. Marathoning Supernatural while knitting this makes it barely tolerable!

It looks about as boring as it is to make it!

In other news my final skein of Fyberspates arrived and I finished off the leaf edging. It used just under 20g of yarn to finish it off; but I think it was well worth it. Added bonus being I have most of a ball to make something for myself.

Pattern: Wrapped in Leaves by Alana Dakos
Yarn: Fyberspates High Twist DK (Silk and Merino) colour – Bamboo
Mods: 5.0mm needles instead of 4.0mm

Thoughts: I LOVE this yarn. Brown isn’t normally my usual choice; but I let my mum choose and this colour is her perfectly. She wanted something that would co-ordinate with anything in her wardrobe, but still visually interesting and I think the variegation in this yarn works well for that. I think the choice to go up one needle size helped greatly with the flow of this garment. It’s incredibly light, but soft and warm as well.

In year of Project news I got a bit started on my Celestrium

And past the heel and gusset decreases on Francie!

I also made a very brief start on Fatty Lumpkin; the African flower pony, however I didn’t take any photographs of that.

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
