Uh Oh!

When I ordered the yarn for Wrapped in Leaves I was a little bit short. I imagined being able to make it smaller and the thought that “Well you have to round up to a full ball” crossed my mind. This week I’ve not been able to put this shawl down and I made it onto the leaf edging on Monday. I still had 50g left and at that point I did start to doubt myself.

Well last night I got to here.

Uh oh! I had two options. Rip back the whole edging, rip back the shawl until I had enough yarn to finish or buy a new ball at £14.50. I bought the new ball. This is a Christmas present and ripping it back that far would just have made it far too small.

So while I wait I’m working on some things I totally neglected this week.

I have about 5cm to go before dividing for the arms on Dad’s Cardigan. I’d show a picture but it’s no more exciting than the last one you saw. Miles of stocking stitch.

I found this cute ribbon in a knitting shop in town and had to have it. My aim is to sew one on the back of Morgan’s blanket this afternoon.

The eyes also arrived for the elephant! I’m very glad I ordered a 12mm pair as the 10’s looked far too small. This means I’m going to have to go back and re-order for the Pony but I’d rather have the elephant look right now and order again.

The details as always are available on my Ravelry page and I must say I’m very pleased with it. I think when I make another I will use proper toy pellets, this has marbles and they’re just too big. As Nellie is decorative it doesn’t matter too much. I was surprised by how little yarn this used; less than 1 ball (50g) of each of the colours and pretty much 1 ball (50g) of the main taupe used to connect them all.

My only other comment is that weaving in; or at least knotting the ends is mandatory and then when I do Barry’s Pony I’m going to start following the pattern from the beginning. This time I made the motifs first and I think if I start by joining together then I’ll get a better colour balance all around.

Today I’ve got round to doing some house keeping. I know a lot of people follow blogs with Blog Lovin after the demise of Google Reader. At the moment I’m using Feedly, but I also wanted to claim my blog on Blog Lovin for future reference.

You mean your yarn swift isn’t a play thing?

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...
