Sunday Yarn Additions

We’ve been having a rough week. It started out on Monday with our boy rat showing a large head tilt and a bit of weakness. Two vets visits later and he seems to be a whole lot better; even if he still hates the taste of Baytrill (I don’t blame him!)

Work has been frustrating this week with my visual basic code throwing weird bugs at me; and finding out I’m not eligible for a program that would train me properly on how to write above vba code.

Then to top it all off Rhys got his bike stolen Friday. Chained up with a bike lock outside of work; in front of a supposedly working CCTV camera. The bike wasn’t worth a huge amount of money, but enabled Rhys to get backwards and forwards to work quickly and efficiently. You do everything right and chain it up and some sods still come along and take what isn’t theirs. It makes you sick; so a good chunk of our time on Friday was spent talking to Gwent police and to our home insurance. So he now has 2 new bike locks with different style chains and locks; Fingers crossed that they’ll be deterred by this. Nice insurance company have confirmed they’ll cover a new bike so I’m just waiting until payday on Monday so I can pay the excess.

Friday I made a trip to Lidl as part of their special offer this week was Sock “Thread”. It was 4 balls for £4. 2 colours per pack (I’ve only taken pictures of one ball of each here).£2 for a pair of socks; can’t beat that!

The Navy solid is earmarked for my Dad’s Birthday next year and Rhys wants the orange variegated at some point.

Today we made a trip to Aldi as they had other yarn in this week. I bought 2 balls of this Aran weight yarn. It’s a wool acrylic blend and is destined to be a Ranger for Rhys next year.

I also picked up some Baby yarn as it was a reasonable price and always handy to have on hand. Although traditional colours are not really in my palette at the moment people I knit for (like my Mum) do like the traditional colours.

Finally in finished objects we have a simple cushion. This is going to be for my Auntie for Christmas.

At the end of each month I’m going to try and set some goals for the following month.

This month I have a week off work so I’m hoping to get at least 4 Christmas presents finished this month and my Year of Socks project. That will leave me with 2 Christmas presents to finish by December which sounds like a nice goal!

I’d put a photograph of Dad’s sleeves in here apart from they’re not interesting at all – just a bit longer than they were before!

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
