Year in Review

It’s been a long time since I last blogged. Technical errors here at Chez Rat involving my new HP going away for treatment. It wasn’t registering the external Graphics card and that was causing no end of problems with crashes and the Mr Crafty’s games. My back up PC only runs Linux and getting photographs and blogging from there was more hassle and with Christmas who needs hassle!

We had a lovely Christmas and I hope you did too. Very whistle stop tour of my family up in Lincolnshire and still some Festivities to come with the Welsh lot over new year.

I’m just going to put in pictures of my work this year. The later few I’ve not blogged about I’ll expand on a little.

Left – Rhys’ Red Hat. 4ply yarn and 2.0mm needles. Needless to say a labour of love, especially as the majority of it is ribbed for the brim. He wanted something thin enough to fit under his bike helmet while he cycles this winter.

Top Left– Christmas Card. Done for work’s Charitree. The background was drawn and coloured by me with the little stockings knitted on the fire place.

Top Middle – Cardigan for Works do. Drops Alpaca and Silk, incredibly soft and very nice to wear. Improvised pattern with feather and fan at the bottom as the night was 20’s themed.

Top Right – Nip and Nora Rat, for Anna for Christmas (She might not have got it yet so sorry, but it’s to come!)

Right – Tea Jenny for Laura for Christmas. Finished version has a pom pom on top.

Bottom Right – One of 3 identical hats I knitted for Mr Crafty’s Cousins kids (follow that lol?)

Bottom Middle – An African Flower Football for my Nephews Christmas present

Bottom Right – Boston Terrier Mittens for my Canadian Friend Christina!

Total for this year – 39 knitted or Crocheted items. Not too shabby considering that involved 3 adult garments, 3 pairs of socks and a blanket!

  1. What a year! I'm still in love with my boston terrier mittens. I love showing them off to clients when I do my dog walking. Thanks again so much. =)

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
