February Frenzy!

It’s been quite some time again hasn’t it? I’ve been feeling awful again but still no closer with answers. I had my liver ultrasound at the end of January and it found fatty liver and a bit of fat around my kidneys. The answer is to loose weight of course, but I eat reasonably healthily and it still doesn’t go. I’m going to make more of an effort to eat better than I did before though.

Knitting wise not a lot has been going on. I finished my January Socks

Actually in January as well! Though due to the horrible light here at the moment I’ve not managed to get my model and daylight together yet. Hopefully that will change tomorrow and I can give some better pictures.

The pattern is Black Beauty Rides on and is part of a book called “Lit Knits” but also avalible independently as a single PDF. It was an incredibly quick knit, even on 4 ply and 2.5 mm needles. The temptation was to get up to the next horseshoe before putting it down and I even enjoyed the twisted stitches. The yarn is Jarol Heritage 4ply and I still have a full ball left over so there will be more socks in it’s future.

I cast on Februarys socks on the 1st.

The pattern is Coriolis Effect and I finished the first one on Wednesday. I’m still optimistic about getting these done this month (despite the Ravellenic games – more on that later!) The yarn I’m not sure. I want to say Opal but the label is long long gone. I know I bought it at Miju Wools in Gloucester and Opal is a line they stock.

This is my swatch for the Ravelenic Games. I’m playing for team Bok Bok MF this year. I’m still not entirely sure how it’s all going to fit together but I like the rainbow colours and the way the hearts look.

Maggie really enjoys spending time with me when it’s cold. She’s such a snuggler and my dressing gown is her favourite place to be. I do have to be careful she doesn’t nibble on my ears or the back of my neck. She’s only trying to groom me but I have more sensitive skin then a rat!

Today we went into Cardiff. Yesterday was Rhys’ birthday. We had a plesant day in enjoying each others company with a trip to the delicious Italian cafe up the road. Today we spent with his dad and Sister. We got in earlier then them so a Trip to John Lewis was on the cards for me. My wonderful friend Laura gave me* gift cards for Christmas and because these were in the sale section I scored all of them for £15.42!

It’s Rowan Siena 4ply, the left colour has washed out a bit here (poor evening light) but is BRIGHT pink, BRIGHT teal and BRIGHT orange. I’m thinking something with the three of them together. Possibly colour work gloves? Maybe just striped No Gloves no Love.. we shall have to see.

Cardiff is a dangerous place as it contains Whittards of Chelsea. A fabulous tea provider. I do like hit drinks but they have the tendency to keep me up at night due to caffeine. I’m really hoping this caffeine free infusion does the trick. I bought myself a new mesh infusher as the bits are too big for my Tea Rex infuser. Plus chocolate covered coffee beans!!

I also discovered a small bead shop down one of the alleys and couldn’t resist picking up a few bits. I’m really in love with the day of the dead coloured skulls although I have no idea what I will use them on. I’m wondering if the yellow beads will play nicely with the bight bright cotton… possibilities possibilities…

Till next time!

Hannah.

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
