F.O Frenzy

It has yet again been a long time since I posted! I’ve been enjoying some time with family, some time playing on my video games (Wii U Lego City Undercover mainly) and time with with pets.

I’ve still been knitting though, and managed to finish a few things!

Kicking things off we have a dreamcatcher kit that came free in Simply Crochet. Totally not my colours, and not something I really enjoyed making, but it took 1 evening to complete so I can’t really complain.

We move belatedly on to Aprils Year of Socks entry.

These are Kiellinie knitted in Aldi Sock Yarn. The pattern required a bit of complex thinking and working out at times – it’s more of a basic recipe then detailed patterns I’m used to. I might feel that way because I worked without measurements the first time round and had to rip out the whole foot of the first sock. This meant I could then work the two at the same time (to the right pattern measurement!) so it all worked out in the end. I gave these to my dad at the bank holiday weekend and he loved them so that’s good.

We also have May’s entry for Year of Socks. This pair is for Rhys’ Step Dad on Fathers Day. The yarn is Opal Rainforest in Penguin and the pattern is Basket Weave Rib. I really enjoyed making these socks and they seemed to fly by. I worked two at a time, top down.

I do have to admit as much as I like working toe up I love the look of a traditional heel flap. I scraped through these with less than 40 yards of yarn to spare. Some very tense final toe rows!

I finished something with yarn I bought at Wonderwool this year! This is Gwyneth – it now has a teal pom-pom on the top. It’s bright and in your face and I love it. I’ve not knitted with chunky yarn in a very long time and forgot how quickly it works up. Pattern was lovely as well. I’m considering doing it again in thinner yarn with more stitches.

Stash enhancement also happened last month. The last for a long time but I couldn’t resist the Drops sale over at Wool Warehouse, and as I’m knitting a pair of socks every moth I’m likely to run out sometime… with my huge stash probably not for a while, but at £3 a pair who can resist.

The Fluro Rainbow and the Rainbow Mini-Mochi (for a Whipporwhil) fell in to my basket at the same time as the Pom Pom from Purple Linda’s Crafts.

To atone for all of the new yarn coming in I’ve started something with old old stash. This is Clicky Needles Lace in Tangerine by a Gloucestershire dyer. I bought this at least 2.5 years ago, maybe a bit longer. It’s one of the oldest things in my stash. When it grows up it’s going to become Malgven by Lucy Hauge. Very pretty bit requires a lot of concentration!!

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
