Recent F.O's

Oh it's been a whole while again hasn't it?

This time around it's computer problems, my primary hard drive died. HP were fantastic in delivering the new hard drive, but we are STILL waiting for the recovery media. Luckily someone had a Windows 8 disk, and I'd found out and written down my product key. Otherwise someone would have been very annoyed that he couldn't play his games when we we're away.

Yes we're away! I've stolen a few moments from Rhys to go on my laptop and read the blogs and write up a post. This moment happens to be at 7.32am (woken at 5 by the sunlight!) but I'll take it. We've come up to my parents again in Lincolnshire, leaving our house to Rhys' sister for the 2 weeks.

We're having a great time already, we came up Friday and have been having such a lovely lazy time of things. I've read 3 books, knitted half a pair of socks, and played a bit of Wii U.

So last time I wrote I'd finished the March socks for fathers day and had 1 pair to go in June.

Which I finished in record time. According to Ravely, I started this pair on the 1st of June and finished them on the 8th. Two solid weekends of knitting, plus a pattern that said "ooo one more round" and before I knew it I was turning the heel.

The pattern (Tidepool Socks) is a traditional top down gusset flap construction method of doing socks. As much as I love my toe up socks, and enjoy excecuting the short row heel I do love a gusset flap for comfort.

This pair were for Rhys' Dad and have been enjoyed and washed repeatedly already.

I've also finished the first Dr Who scarf! This didn't take me as long as I thought it would do either. I started March 6th and finished June 14th. This obviously wasn't constant knitting as I worked on lots of other things. It's good knitting when you're tired or just want to watch a TV show. The worst part of it was the weaving in of the ends and the attaching of the dreaded fringe. It mostly used half a ball of each colour, so I'll have plenty of leftovers even after I finish the second one.

Gift knitting has also been done! A little mousie for Liz at work. Following along the lines of Eduardo the stereyotypical Mexican mouse this one is called Rambo. Liz and her husband have a little mouse that pops up every now and again in their garage, but they never see him just where he's been. This is the second time using the (free!) Toerag the Tube Mouse pattern and it's great. He was done with 4ply yarn and 2.0mm needles which is why he's so tiny. The 2p piece is to scale.

I've also made 2 more rats for our friend Anna. I made her one for Christmas, that for various reasons she never got. So I've finally got round (6 months later!) to making her a new pair. These two are based off her own rats. The grey one at the top is 4ply Shetland yarn, and the bottom is DK weight acrylic, which accounts for the size difference. I hope she'll like them anyway. The pattern again is Nip and Nora Rats. Quick and Easy and always effective.

Tonight we're off to see Mrs Browns boys at the Cinema in our local town. Louth is one of the few places on earth (it feels like!) that still has an intermission in the middle. Yes, complete with an ice cream lady or man who comes down! It's one part of my childhood I truly cherish and it's always great to spend time with my Mum and Dad as well.

I have one more pair of socks to blog about, but my sock model is still in bed so they'll have to wait until I can next grab the computer back! Until then I must go cast on a new pair!

Till next time.

Hannah.

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
