Summer happened so fast.

It's nearly time for our family (that is me, Rhys and the 2 poorly rats we brought) to go back "home" to Newport. I'll have lived there for 2 years this September and it's still "home".

Anyway I thought I should catch up on a few weeks of photos. Most of these are from my phone and have been run through Instagram Filters. I'm CraftyLittleRat on there - sorry if you see these twice.

These last two weeks I've raced through books. This pile here were all about Stories, Myths and Legends.

I'm using GoodReads (Again Crafty Little Rat) to keep tabs of what I've read and want to read. This Holiday I've read,

An Abundance of Katherines
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
45 Pounds
Icelandic Folk Tales and Fairytales
Beasts of Myth and Mysters
Scandinavian Troll: It's life and History
Celtic Myths and Ledgends
Icelandic Trolls
Lincolnshire Folk Tales
We Were Liars.

I'm starting now on The Book Theif - Which I've heard is exclent.
I finished my World Cup Socks - though I've not managed a better picture than this one as of yet. Old Hand Dyed yarn, Anastasia Pattern on Ravelry.

We went to Woodside Wildlife and Falconry centre near Lincoln and Rhys bought me a Capybara cuddly toy. He's now called Che Guevara - I had to have him as I love all rodents and it's so rare to find one.
I took a great picture of the Peacock there too. I'm thinking of sending it in to Countryfile and the calender contest. No Filter on this one.
Annual Treat of Spam Fritter and Chips at Skegness sea side.
Got caught in the Wool shop in Louth. Lovely people, I only went in for some Cable Needles but came out with a Giraffe kit and some Buttons as well.

Finished Logan the Moose from the Toft Alpaca Book. I won tickets to go to the Book Launch which is a week on Friday. I'm very excited and happy that I can spend time with my friend Angie who's agreed to come with me.

Slow but steady progress on July's socks. I should really have gone up a needle size for the patterning. I'm doing a wide afterthought heel so hopefully with a bit of blocking they'll fit. I'd just placed the afterthought heel here.

More Yarn Goodies - This time from the Grimsby Wool shop. I've not tried Heart and Sole before, bit it was a great deal I couldn't refuse. Who never needs more sock yarn anyway?

I got some more Loom Bands this holiday as well. I do enjoy making things with them, even if it is really for 12 year olds!

More books! Though as I said up post I've already read two of them and started on the third. Some beading bits as well.
I  restuffed Shaddowfax (The Pony's) neck this holiday as well. The stuffing had settled making it hard for this head to stand up. Barry Bear - my parents child substitute and my little brother wanted a pair of reins for him as well, which I made out of Loom Bands.

The Humber Bridge yesterday on our adventure to Beverly.
The East Riding of Yorkshire has white phone boxes - a fact someone on my team loves to remind us of so I got a picture of Rhys stood in front of one for him.
And I finally now feel like I've had a proper holiday as I dipped my feet in the sea. Following the morning in Beverly we went through to Bridlington. No one was keen on going for a paddle when we went to Skeg, but I left Rhys with my bags and told him that because I beat him at Crazy Golf I was entitled to a paddle.

Today we're off to go see How To Train your Dragon 2 and I'm hoping to get a look in the Cleethorpes Wool Shop before we go! Lets hope it doesn't close at lunch!

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
