A pile of F.O’s

These last few weeks I’ve been very busy knitting and crocheting away – but had a few things I couldn’t show because I didn’t know if the recipients read the blog. That means a bumper F.O Post today though.

BroadRipple

I’m still keeping up with the LSG Secret Sock Club projects; or what I call my “Year of Socks”. This is officially pair number 8 for the year – August’s Socks. I’ve actually knitted 10 pairs already this year but these were chosen randomly from stash yarn and queued patterns.

After last month’s Broadripple’s turned out too tight I was secretly happy when I pulled the pattern again from the queue. This time I knitted them using 3.0 mm needles and they fit and fit well. I’m debating pulling out the pair I did last month and re-knitting them with the larger needle. We’ll have to see. The yarn is Stylecraft Aviemore and has been in stash since September 2012 according to Ravelry.

CatPouch1

Earlier this month I knitted, sewed in a zip and lined a knitted pouch for my friend Angie’s Birthday.

CatPouchLined

She loves the colour purple, and cats!

Edmund

While we were at Toft Angie dropped hints about wanting a polar bear of her very own. She’s a fabulous knitter, who I’ve not managed to convert to the dark side of crochet yet so I made her a bear of her very own.

Edmund2

He’s called Edmund and his pattern is from Edwards Menagerie. Again I really really love this book and can’t wait to make some more cuddly creatures – For me this time!

Malgven

Lastly my HUGE WIP Malgven. I’ve just finished chart B and have 3 more charts to go. I love this, but it requires thinking on every single round. One round contains cable crosses, but then the easy rounds still need counting to keep the knit and purls in the right places. I’m so in love with it but have itchy fingers to cast on something else already!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
