WIPS

Things seem to be incredibly slow coming off the needles at the moment. This might be because I’m working on a large, long term project (Malgven) or because it feel like I’ve not been knitting lots this last week or two.

I’ve been working on Septembers Secret Sock parcel. Rhys picked out Ziprelaxagon and some orange-yellow sock yarn I bought last year from Aldi.

HexagonSock

Sock one nearly done –I plan on knitting the cuffs at the same time.

The sock has a really unique construction, It’s made up of modules, a bit like a cross between a mitred blanket and Entrelac. You start by casting on and knitting a hexagon shape; and then other hexagons are made by a combination of casting on stitches and picking up and knitting ones from other units; then doing a cool “zip” cast off to close them up.

The patterns fully customisable to any foot shape by using different sized units, and then even more so if you adjust your needle size. For this sock the 9 foot units were done in medium size and the heel and gusset done using large units on a 2,0mm needle. I then used large units and a 2.5mm needle for the leg.

The foot is a tiny bit tight – so for the second sock I’ve started off with 2.5 mm needles and medium units. I’ll do this all the way through to the leg when I’ll up to Large units.

My 2.5 mm KnitPro Karbonz seem to have developed a fault and I’m incredibly sad. About a centimetre down from the tip the carbon just seems to have worn away and it’s a lot thinner than the rest of the needle.

I’ve ordered some ChiaGoo and some HiyaHiya ones last night – I can never have too many 2.5mm needles and emailed KnitPro Europe. The needles are 18 months old – bit at the price they are I expected a longer life from them.

I’ve also been crocheting away too

Roadtrip1

The ubiquitous Road Trip Scarf, in yarn I bought at my LYS, Miju Wools in College Street Gloucester when I was there last month. It’s Stylecraft Vision which is Acrylic and 20% wool. I’m hoping that with the two skeins I have I’ll get a nice big shawl, which will be nice and snuggly this winter.

I’m also planning some quick finishes this next few weeks – 3 pregnancies in my life at the moment all due late January, early February, two girls and a boy so the needles need to get clicking!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
