Wonderwool 2015

I’ve not long come back from an amazing weekend away at Wonderwool Wales and I am TIRED; that good earthy, I won’t be long to bed tonight tired that comes from a fab weekend with brilliant friends, meeting new people, seeing a whole load of amazing stuff and wishing that I’d won the lottery so I could buy it all AND have the time to make it!

We stayed again at The Old Station Caravan park and we were in the same ‘Van as last year which was lovely. I can’t honestly say enough about how nice the caravan is and how the owners have thought of every last little thing inside to really make it a home from home.

I hopped on the train Friday lunchtime to Cheltenham to meet up with Angie and Michelle, and after we loaded Michelle’s car she very graciously drove us up. It’s a wonderful drive, very scenic A roads mostly and we made good time in order to get settled, eat some delicious Pizza and drink some lovely fizz

If it sounds like I was spoiled this weekend dear reader then you would be right. A hundred, million times over. It is an incredible treat again this year to enjoy the company of two ladies who just give and give and give. I come back refreshed and enthused about life and I love it so much.

We were all up and on on Saturday, arriving not long past 9 after a hearty breakfast. I only managed to get two photographs on the day! Some beautiful fibre producing bunnies and the ever glorious Toft Alpaca!

This is what I came away with. I spent every last penny I had, even borrowing a pound of Angie at the end! This year my Wonderwool Fund (I put away £20 a month) got decimated by Vets bills. It was what it was, and Rhys busted a gut moving money around and scrimping and saving to get me what I took so I am eternally happy with what I got. EVERYTHING sung to me this year and I love it all.

First up is the easy one! I bought a Shawl Pin. I’m knitting a lot of shawls at the moment and needed something to fasten them with. I liked this one because, well hearts and it’s classic enough to go with any shawl without overpowering it.

Next up is a bundle of leather of-cuts (£6! for my Mum) from the Leather Handbag man (Leatherwise). I’m thinking I might steal a small bit as a “finders fee” though I’m not sure what I would do with it yet.

I searched high and low for a Zoom Loom, but sadly non to be found.. one is on order! But came across this mini weaving kit on Crafts from the Dungeon’s stall and really liked the look of it. I can’t wait to dig in, when I have a bit more brain!

This yarn yelled at me. It’s Rosie’s Moments 4ply (80% Merino, 20% Nylon). I spied this from across the way and was drawn to it. I HAD to have it. I think it’s going to be a Sunny Days Shawlette and to be honest I really really can’t wait to cast it on.

An interspersed shot of the BEAUTIFUL countryside we were in today. We went into this field to take a picture of Michelle’s amazing Poncho – Angie is an amazing photographer

My first wool purchase of the day was actually lunchtime! Again the top skein just yelled to me from the EasyKnits.co.uk stall. EasyKnits was an obvious choice for me, I’ve bought something from them every single year so far and with great reason.

The shawl I want to make has a cabled edging – which would probably have been lost in the top yarn. Initially I’d picked out the yellow to do the cable band at the bottom. I settled up, had a lovely chat and met Sweep the dog. It wasn’t until Lunch when showing them off i realised the yellow was DK not 4ply! Luckily they let me change it out, they had no yellow sparkle 4ply but I think I might actually like the Purple better.

My last purchase of the day was some new to me yarn, Whistlebare Yeavering Bell. This is going to make me an amazing Faberge.

One last beautiful shot from the paddock this morning. Until next year!

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
