Hi everyone!

(Hi Dr Nick! – can you tell I’ve been watching old Simpsons episodes?)

I’ve not been blogging for a while because, well my life has been pretty boring! Project monogamy, work and feeling run down isn’t the best blog combination. I’ve got plenty of drafts saved on here where I’ve just not had the brain power to finish them; does anyone else have days like that or is it just me?

I’ve now finished the project monogamy and it’s laid out on my spare bedroom floor. There’s a fan going and the curtains open so hopefully it will dry within a few days and I’ll be able to share it with you then. It won’t be an F.O Friday post because on Friday I’m off to a friends house ready for Wonderwool!

You may have also noticed a name change, and a blog url change. I felt it really was time for something a bit different, that expresses my love of all things craft related and obviously my rats! I’ve had a hard time letting go of my old username, it was my online presence for nearly 10 years. I think this one is a much better fit. I even made a new temporary banner!

As I have no photos of my own to share today I’m going to show some from Ravelry that other people have photographed. These are all thing I’m planning on maybe buying wool for next weekend. It probably isn’t in my budget to afford all of it, but having multiple choice gives me much more of an option and stops me coming home with just sock yarn – which is great but limits my choices a bit.

1. Celestrium; It’s a KNITTED STAR CHART need I say more? I have some really nice amber coloured beads lined up for this, and I think I’ll knit the pattern without the Y.O eyelets. I liked the concept of this, and then I saw it in real life and knew I had to make it.

2. Ranger – Rhys has been begging me for this for ages. He wants it in a very similar colour too. If not I have some grey merino that I bought at Wonderwool last year that would be a great fit for this.

3. Circle of Life Shawl– for an in my dreams wedding shawl. If I start now by the time we have money to get married I should have finished it right?

4.   Alpine Shawl (DK234) – Catchy name isn’t it? Again something someone was crocheting at the London meet up and I had to queue.

See you all later on today (because I forgot to hit publish last night –oops!) For the 4th Annual knitting and crochet blog week! This year will be my second, and although I’m under tighter time constraints than last year when I wasn’t working I still want to take part.

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
