“KCBWDAY1 The House Cup.
A bit like Harry Potter, but not quite, this year’s Knitting & Crochet Blog Week is split into 4 houses. Don your favourite knitted or crocheted hat and let it guide you to which house you will be in.The House of Bee: Bees are busy and industrious, but can flit from one interesting project to the next as bright and shiny things capture their interest.
The House of Manatee: Manatees are gentle, calm and cuddly. Relaxed and unflashy they represent the comfort and soft side of knitting and crochet.
The House of Monkey: Intelligent and with a fun loving side, Monkeys like to be challenged with every project presenting them with something new and interesting.
The House of Peacock: Peacocks take something good and make it brilliant. Buttons, embellishments and a bit of sparkle prove that perfection lies in the details – like a Peacock's Tail.
So choose your house. You may be a combination of more than one of these noble beasts, but think about which house best embodies your qualities and declare your place. You can use one of the graphics above to display your house crest, if you like (though this is totally optional).
You could of course decide that you are so unlike any of these creatures in your style of crafting that you set up a rival faction and adopt your own house, though whether you get invited to the end of term disco remains to be seen, you rebel.”
Oooh, making me think on day one! This isn’t really very fair is it? After a full days work too! I’m torn between two at the moment, but let’s talk about the ones that didn’t make the cut.
Manatee – I’d love to be a manatee; they’re so cute! Some of the time I do easy, soft squishy cuddly things but really, not very often. I rarely make the same thing twice, unless I’m working out kinks in my own pattern, I really enjoyed the knit or it’s a gift. The one thing I’ve made several times involves colour work, and even though I’m planning on making myself another sheep blanket, again it’s not the easiest of things to do.
Peacock: I like shiny things. I’ve not yet beaded a project, although I have the beads in mind for 2 and know I’d be able to do it. I love sparkly yarn as well. I do have difficulty seeing modifications like sequins and additional non functional buttons that are not stipulated in the pattern. Embroidery is something I really want to learn how to do as well. For now, not me but hopefully at some point soon it will be.
Now onto the two I think I fit best into
Monkey: I like messing around with string and seeing what it can do. I like designing my own patterns, even if most of them don’t work out. I like challenging myself to different things and I like showing off my things.
Bee: Immediately my partner suggested this one to me. Bright and shiny things definitely fits my radar along with flitting from project to project. Last month I went monogamous with my knitting to finish a vest for Wonderwool and it nearly killed me.
But actually you know what? I’m a RAT
I like challenges, things to work out my brain. Puzzles are great as long as the promised reward is worth it and I can be VERY determined when I want to be. I like shiny things and have a short attention span and can flit from thing to thing forgetting what I was doing two minutes ago (my rats are like this with treats; drop them then they’re sad when someone else has eaten them instead). I like the fun things of a project, but sometimes nothing beats curling up in a big squishy soft safe rat pile, or some nice simple stockinette or garter stitch in knitter terms!
Later assignments require a preference of a house, so I flipped a coin and I came out a Bee.
