Sort it Saturday

Truth be told I have not got a lot of knitting news to share with you. I want a new knitted item to go to Wonderwool with at the end of April, and that has taken over from all other things. Combined with life whipping along at an alarming rate, but uninterestingly so if that makes sense. Blogging about the fact I’d worked a full week by WEDNESDAY week before last is really not interesting at all!

The long 4 day bank holiday weekend gave me a chance to sit back and take pace of things, and also to spend time with family which is the most important of all. Last Monday I spent the day slaved over the cooker and made Sweet and Sour Chicken, – 3 Portions Ginger Beer Pork, (3 meals worth each) Cream of Spinach Soup – 7 portions Meatballs, – 6 portions. Thai Fish Cakes, – 4 Portions Leek and Ham Rissotto – 5 Portions Cheesy Baked Turkey Macaroni. – 7 Servings. That’s 35 Portions put away; food for 17 nights for both of us; and one for me when I’m on my own.

Today I tackle the issue of my yarn stash!

The other day I bought these pretty bags

And I spent the day sorting my Yarn and stashing it all on my Ravelry page. All 41149 yards of it according to Ravelry.

P1010865

However I did have time to whip out a dishcloth to make some room in the stash!

Tomorrow I start the painful process of a provisional cast on. The sweater I’m currently knitting calls for more yarn then I have. It’s also very long and contains a hood which eats yarn so I assumed I’d be fine. I’m nearly down to my last 3 skeins, and seeing as this yarn was bought in 2010 I won’t be able to get the same dyelot. So I’m going to provisionally cast on and knit from the underams upwards including the sleeves. Then I’ll put my existing work back on the needles and knit until I’m nearly out of yarn and graft the two together. Hopefully this is a good idea and won’t fail. Hopefully. We shall see!

If I never post about it again safe to assume that it was a failure Winking smile

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
