February Round up

Happy St David’s Day from sunny (for once!) Wales. It’s still a bit chilly here, but apparently the first of March heralds the start of spring.

I did manage to complete some things in February, though not as much as I would have liked and frankly I’m glad to see the back of the flipping month.

Dalekanium

February’s pair of Socks – Dalekanium in some sock will with a long lost label. For this pattern I had to modify the stitch count dramatically – I ended up just using the slip stitch pattern really over 60 stitches and a toe up heel flap and gusset. First successful eye of partridge heel as well. I also did a short row toe as well.

I also finished another section of the Christmas Tree skirt. Still really loving the pattern and the yarn (Stylecraft Chunky held double). It’s a nice amount of knitting to do in a month. I think it’s too much to sit down and do all at once, but this way it never feels like a slog to complete just the one section.

I’m a bit worried I may have to do cable surgery as I think I’ve crossed the first cable at the edge funnily. We shall see when I’ve completed this next segment.

I’ve also been working on my 10 stitch blanket. First colour is finished and I’m getting closer to finishing the blue. It’s made of sock scraps.

I’m hopefully going to be popping in on Wednesday with a WIP post – and some new yarn I bought on Saturday (Cold Sheep are getting a bit warmer!)

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
