March Ploddings

Today I managed to make the most of the little light we had to take some update pictures!

It’s been a bit of a spring clean-y day around here. I’ve got rid of a huge pile of too big for me clothes today and had a general spruce up around the living room.

I’ve also changed the URL of the blog to http://craftylittlerat.blogspot.com – previously it was craftylilrat, the little part wasn’t available in full when I registered. Maybe now I won’t keep typing in my blog address wrong!

I’m knitting away on my March Socks pretty much exclusively

Pattern is Reverso from Knitty and the yarn is a hand dyed one called Night Jewels from my LYS Miju. From this side with the purls facing out it’s not that obvious but it striped up pretty accurately!

I’ve also fallen off the cold sheep wagon a little. 18 months ago I made my nephew a blanket for his first birthday out of Natura cotton, well he now has a little sister and I wanted to do the same for her. Spotting this in my LYS I just couldn’t resist. The blue and the yellow are also present in her brothers blanket so will nicely tie the two together without being identical.

I felt the colours are still girly, but remain a bit more grown up then the pastel pink and peach traditional baby colours. I have 2 balls of each which should give a nice sized throw.

I’m planning on doing a ripple blanket (a-la Attic 24) and have given myself plenty of time as she’s only 6 weeks old! Planning on trying to work in a repeat or two a month so I don’t get bored of doing it.

Lastly when in Chester bought some unlabelled “Italian Knitting wool” from the treasure trove that is Abkahns. It’s at least 20% wool and I have about 1,000g of it. I’m planning on knitting a jumper for me in it – probably Owls.

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
