Sedentary Sunday

Hello!

I’ve been busy knitting and watching Netflix and not a lot else these past few weeks. Work has been busy and real life busy too that home time means switch off time.

Since I last posted I’ve finished 4 things! I have to be so much better about blogging

Reverso

This month’s mystery Socks – Reverso. I didn’t particularly like knitting these – I loved the way the hand dyed yarn striped, although a lot of that is lost when they’re right side out (Left sock) and the patterning was lost around the heel and toe. There was a LOT of purling after the heel turn. At this point I had to turn the sock inside out again and purl across the bottom of the foot – there was no way I could keep my patterning right on the instep looking at the purl side. Never the less it was in my queue and free, and sometimes you just can’t tell until you’ve knit them. They fit well, look nice but boy am I glad they are DONE!

Next up is Across The beach

The above Pre-Blocking gives a far better idea of the colours – excuse the bitty floor the hamster seems to pouch bedding before going in her ball. I’m forever picking it up off the floor!

And this is during the blocking – which shows a better idea of the lace involved.

I have to say as much as I love the end result I HATED knitting this shawl; the pattern wasn’t particularly intuitive to me. The Purl 15 together were so annoying and the stitch markers didn’t line up, especially on the last section of the lace. I also think it came out a little small, it’s more of a shawelette than a shawl and it would have looked silly if I’d finished it when I was bigger.

I really need to invest in some new black tops to show off my shawl!

We had a charity event this week in work for Brain Tumour research. Rhys broke this to me on Monday afternoon that he wanted a hat and I showed him this one. OH YES he said, so I promptly nearly destroyed my wrists crocheting this pattern! Incredibly well written, and brilliant. Fiddly in a way because it’s essentially a toy on top of a hat but was well worth it in the end!

We won first prize for “Best Overall hat” which was fantastic. Got tons of requests for making more, but I graciously declined as I’d never make any money doing it and I’d loose all of my love for crafting and crochet in general.

So Friday night I was at a bit of a loose end – I’d been looking at my queue on Rav for my Wonderwool shopping list when I happened upon Bloody Stupid Johnson which I’ve had in my list for ages.

I just couldn’t wait to cast on. Paired up with some Jarol Heritage yarn that I bought last year in Bridlington and this practically fell off the knitting needles.

Topped off with a nice fluffy pompom made with a clover pompom maker and I’m in love and just about used up the full ball! It looks a bit short here on my model; bit it’s a perfect length on me.

First time using a tubular cast on and I love it! So stretchy and great.

Anyway, hopefully it won’t be such a long time until I post again!

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...
