A million WIPs

Okay, so maybe hyperbole a little but I have a LOT going on on the needles, hook and wheel at the moment,

Eesh it’s a lot when you put it all together.

Right-o at the bottom is my Christmas Tree skirt; I’m currently working on this months section so hopefully that’ll be one less on the WIP list.

Bottom represented by the orange fluff is my current Spinning project – got a fair bit more to go. Worked through light yellow, yellow, orange and I’m on to dark orange.

And the other one is the ball on the left with the needle stuck in it is going to be Icon eventually.

My zoom loom arrived on Thursday! I’m using scraps from my sock yarn held double (was too thin and lacy singularly) I’ve done 18 so far and have 4 more colours left to go. I still have plenty of scraps left to use but wanted to make one of each colour first.

I’ve started Heere Be Dragonees in some Jon Arbon lace I bought at Wonderwool a few years ago. I’ve done the really really easy bit and now have to do the pattern bit. I’m hoping to get the first chart on this done soon. But it requires a lot of mental concentration, which I’m really really lacking at the moment. Hopefully soon.

Cas Dragon hasn’t been touched lately; but there’s really not too much more to go. Just need to knuckle down and get him done. Laceweight held double in black with a small hook is really slow going and requires lots of light. I’m hoping to make very good progress on this upcoming weekend.

Whippoorwill is coming on a little. It’s been a handbag project for a bit; although it’s now been kicked out because of another project. I can’t wait to get back to it, hopefully soon!

I still have a fair few projects for mindless work, including the blanket for Annalise. I want to finish this colour progression by the end of the month so 3 more full stripes after I finish this one row of yellow.

My last WIP is a new one! I’m using the Laceweight Lincolnshire long wool to knit Celtic Myths the pattern is designed for DK weigh yarn but so easily adaptable for any weight yarn. As long as your stitch count is divisible by 8 +3 it’ll work. For now though it’s nice and easy – right side rows increase by 4 stitches (YO, M1 knit to end, M1 YO) and then K3, Purl, K3 on wrong side rows. Lovely!

I have got some things to show for FO Friday this week so hopefully I’ll be back sharing them with you. It’s been a long time since I did a WIP Wednesday and maybe keeping up with it will actually make me do some progress on these works.

I’ve never been a monogomous knitter – but at the moment this is ridiculous!

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...

March Goals

I’ve been trying to write a recap of 2020 crafting for the last two months. It’s very odd that I’ve been stopping myself from writing other posts because I “must” recap what has honestly been one of the weirdest years in history. Not that my craft has been weird of course, but small acts like photographing everything felt overwhelming at times last year and I’m taking it as a personal success that at least things are recorded on Ravelry.   So I’m going to try a more regular check in, I’m currently working on a variety of WIPs and I’d love to aim for at least a monthly update on where they stand and new cast ons or ideas.   Current WIPS   Shine Shawl:   This is being worked in some yarn my parents bought for me as a Christmas present from their trip to Scotland in the few non-lockdown weeks we had last summer. They picked out 3 colours for me a lovely tomato red, a deep sandy yellow and a rich chocolate brown. They’re tweedy and they have occasi...

Thinking about 2017 goals!

I'm currently laid up with what we think is Slapped Cheek. Slapped cheek is a thing that kids get, and my bosses daughter had a case. When it affects adults it shows up as joint pain and swelling and flu like symptoms. Ouch. As a result I can't do much knitting or spinning or crochet. What else can I do but have a think about what my goals for 2017 should be? My goals for 2016 were fairly simple 80/20 Yarn used to yarn bought ratio (We’ll see how this goes!) Finish using 2015’s Wonderwool yarn before 2016’s WW (Faberge, Sunny Days Shawlette, Pink Topaz)  12 pairs of Socks in 2016  So I managed 2 and 3, and the less said about goal 1 the better I suppose. I must have added at least 100 skeins or balls of yarn to the stash this year. To be fair, I did go to Canada (where I bought lots of yarn) and have a fortuitous year with Wonderwool this year. By comparison, I've used up around 60; which really is no mean feat. Proposed Goals!* 1) Yarn Management! I'm st...
