From Lincolnshire with Love

I am a Lincolnshire girl. For the last 7 years I’ve lived elsewhere but my heart still belongs in the Wolds.

Being the other half of a very proud Welshman it’s so very easy to get “stuff” that shows off his heritage. Everywhere you go there’s Welsh flags, bags, outfits and the symbolism of dragons and daffodils.

For me not so much. For a start most people don’t even know where Lincolnshire is…

Hint – It’s the red bit!

We have a flag – although it’s only within the last 2 years I’ve actually been able to find them for sale

And the only other thing people really know “us” for is our lovely sausages and we have Chine and Haselet (correctly pronounced HACE-let not Haz-let) and Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese

And while sausages are FUN and Tasty, they’re not exactly wearable.

Enter Risby Flock!

I’ve been after some Lincolnshire Longwool (From “our” sheep breed, the Lincoln) for a long time. I’d hoped to grab some at Wonderwool, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. This is the lace weight Lambswool.

And this is a big pile of the squishy DK – Ewe and Lamsbwool.

The yarn isn’t buttery soft. It’s hard wearing, but nowhere near as scratchy as I thought it would be. It softened after a wash with Soak and bloomed slightly as well. A little annoying as my pre wash gage was bang on and now I have to re-swatch!

And as a lovely little add on they included some really really good hand lotion as well! Lovely people, well worth dealing with and I CAN’T wait to get started on the project with the lace (which I’m able to show you) and the project with the DK (which will have to stay a secret until Feb 2016 I’m afraid!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
