May Goals

I cannot believe how this year is whizzing past our ears!

Booties

First off a little FO – a pair of baby booties for a new tiny baby at the end of the office baby boom. This is the wonderful daffodils pattern by Shake Your Booties and they’re so wee and tiny! I knitted these on 2.0mm needles as my gauge was too large on the 2.5s I used last time.

For the last however long I’ve been participating in a monthly thread on one of my Ravelry boards that lets you set monthly goals and work towards them. For whatever reason I’ve never posted about them on the blog but I’m trying to be better about using it more so here’s my goals for this month.

May should be a good month for knitting – I’ve got a good few days off this month what with bank holidays and little planned. My parents are down at the end of the month which is always fun.

Spin 50g of fibre – I’ve picked out some 21 micron Merino tops I bought last year from Wingham Wool works at Wonderwool.

Knit the next Segment of the Tree skirt. 5/11 – nearly half way done!

Socks! Planorbis Corneus is my pattern this month

Weave 10 squares on my Zoom Loom

Finish Cas Dragon

Complete a set (5 colours) of stripes on Annalise’s blanket

Start Here Be Dragones

Start Everdeen – I’m hoping that this might be “easy” enough to do when Mum and Dad are down, and to take with me for knit and natters until you get to the lace part at the bottom. I’ve not bought the pattern yet though!

You might have noticed Whipoorwhil has fallen off the list. It’s still on the needles, but at the moment it’s SO easy and has no major time restraints on it, unlike Here Be, Everdeen and Cas Dragon which have solid set limits, even though they ARE February 2016. It will be my Knit and Natter project, after I get past the easy bit on Everdeen.

It’s a bit of a heart break truth be told to leave it and not work at it ALL of the time I love it so – but I know it will be there for me when I’ve finished these few projects!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
