WIP Wednesday

It feels strange doing a WIP Wednesday when I actually haven’t knitted or crocheted much this last week. The last 3 days, since Monday have been spent sewing. I knitted 20 petals and that’s it!

However those of you that are familiar with Sylvi will know that this is the signal of the end. Sewing up the side seams (2 hours), setting in the sleeves (2 hours) Weaving in the ends (1.5 hours) and knitting 20 petals (3 hours) and then sewing them on (at least an hour per flower) is the long tedious part of finishing cardigans. I have 2 petals left to sew on and then buttons to attach and it is DONE. So I guess that means I’ll have an F.O for Finished Friday right? I actually have a few FO posts, but FO Friday should be in the spirit of something finished that week right?

So onto 2 of the 3 current WIP’s

Rams and Yowes (Ravelry Link)

60 sheep done! Only 48 rams and 60 more sheep to go! Then the soul crushing picking up stitches for the massive garter stitch in the round border.

RamsAndYoes1

Please excuse my incredibly chic thumbtacks holding the bottom down; It’s stockinette and it’s favourite thing is to roll. They were removed shortly after the picture was taken for fear they’d leave holes!

I’m working on this in Jameson's and Smith’s Jumper weight Shetland yarn. There are 9 different shades in the range, all natural and the designer (the wonderfully talented Kate Davies) does an amazing job on this piece.

As previously said it’s going to be my Grandmother’s birthday present; however her birthday is the 25th of May so I’m nearing the one month deadline for this knit. Because of the time and effort I’m not sure if I want to have it sent by Royal Mail so I’m debating bringing it home myself in July; which sneakily gives me a bit of extra time to finish it!

Never Ending Granny Square Blanket

NeverEndingGranny1

The second WIP is the never ending Granny Square Blanket. After watcing Mikey’s tutorial on Youtube I couldn’t resist starting one.

It’s called a never ending granny not because completing the project feels like it will never end (anyone else feel that way with blankets? No, just me) but because the loops spiral and spiral spiral until time to finish it off.

The yarn is Sidar Countrystyle DK and comes in 50g balls. I have 2 balls of each colour and I’m hoping that will be enough; my LYS is out of the green on the right, so I’d have to get some more online which wouldn’t be the end of the world but I’d prefer to not have too.

Missing in Action is the Wingspan. Poor neglected Wingspan will be travelling with me next Tuesday for a job interview- so don’t feel too bad for it; unless the nerves get too much of me and I can’t knit on the hour train journey down there.

Now if you’ll excuse me I’m off to battle the urge to cast on some socks. Apparently during times of great stress I knit socks. Knitting socks would not be a bad thing for my stash, but having another WIP may be hazardous to my health however, especially seeing as the yarn for my other half’s jumper is arriving tomorrow!

Wish me luck, and hope you don’t see any more WIP’s in the pile next Wednesday!

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from a...

Staycation

Hello all! I’ve had a very busy weekend with my parents being down. While waiting for them to come down I got another 4 squares done on my sock yarn blanket. The left two are from a special mini skein I was given several years ago. I’m not entirely sure when I got given it, but it was a very small skein, probably under 20 yards. Just right to add into my blanket and serve as a reminder though! Saturday we went to Dyffryn gardens – A national trust property that they’re working on restoring. None of us are gardeners, but there was such a lovely selection – In the summer I’ll borrow more photos off my mum’s camera as I thought I’d forgotten mine for the start. Rhys was very enamoured by the cactus room. Sunday we were up and off an on. We went on some Segway’s at Chepstow diving centre, as we booked so late 9am was the only time slot, which was nice as we got to have the rest of the day to ourselves. Poor Mum fell off at the last bit (she’d misjud...

Corwin

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to write this post for a while. I’d hoped at least not this side of Christmas; but he had other plans. Last Thursday Rhys came home from work to find him laid up in the cage, dehydrated and not interested in moving. Rhys tried tempting him with Peanut butter and he turned his nose up a it. Corwin… not accepting food meant it was a bad sign. A few weeks ago he’d started to loose movement in his hind quarters – as can happen in old rats. He was still moving around reasonably well; eating, drinking and snuggling and we agreed to take each day as it came. We took him to the vets that evening, and all agreed that the best thing to do for him was to let him go easily, peacefully and quietly in his sleep. Corwin came to us from SPA Vets in Gloucester. This was our vets before we moved to Newport and one I would heartily recommend to anyone in the area. He’d wandered in through someone’s cat flap and realising (thank goodness!) that he was...
