Looking Forward

I had a wonderful Festive season. It only really wrapped up yesterday, despite short breaks of work in-between.

We were both incredibly spoiled for Christmas; I got lots of Craft bits and spent some of my Christmas money on other bits.

The King Cole Smooth DK is for a shrug for Mum’s co worker, there’s a needle felting kit for a hedgehog and a needle felting tool with some spare needles. My mum got me a spare circular knitting needle and a Christmas scraper foil set for Decorations. I’m hoping to get them done before next year at least!. The little kit at the back is onje for Amigurmi Cakes that came free with my present from my in-laws. They bought me a monthly subscription to Simply Crochet and I’m really looking forward to that. I can’t really get it locally with any ease so I’m very excited!

I also got books! I love books and one of my new years resolutions is to read more; both fiction and non fiction. My mum got me Knit Nordic for Christmas; not all of the projects are to my taste but a lot of the charts will be incredibly useful. My Gran got me Cath Kidson’s Make! which has loads of fantastic projects in it that I’m looking forward to doing soon, I just need to buy copious amounts of Bondaweb, I think every project in there uses it.

I’m really hoping to get into more sewing this year – Sew with Love deals with garment making but on a small (Children's) scale, ideal ways to practice I hope. The Sewing Book and the Great British Sewing Bee were two I was torn between in Smiths, then luckily I wandered round the corner and found a pile with 2 for £10 stickers on which meant I could get both. I loved The Great British Sewing Bee – it inspired me to pick up sewing again last year and The Sewing book looks like more of a hard reference book I will use through the year.

Finally Mr Crafty bought me Raising Steam. I love Terry Prachett books and I’ve looked forward to this one since it came out.

Is anyone making any resolutions this year?

I’m trying to quit biting my nails (this is day one progress, with only a few minor nervous nibbles here and there)

I want to read more this year – at least a book a month

I want to game more this year  - I treated myself to a Wii U with Zelda on it and I have my 3DS and a few games to play though on the Xbox 360 still

And I want to do some needle felting this year – with a mind to maybe doing some craft show things.

Have you made any resolutions? I’d love to hear them.

UFYL Day 3-

Yesterday was a day off because I worked all day. The idea is to get the house to a stage where 20 mins a day in the dedicated room will do it; but we are not yet at that stage so I had a day off. OH did some laundry and attempted to scrub at a mould stain. Today- Bathroom, Spare Room and Cupboard Under the stairs.   Bathroom:   Before So to start off with grout got scrubbed. See the little white patch in the before? That was where I’d attacked it with baking soda about a week ago. As a result the bathroom was clean-ish but horribly cluttered. I got rid of any bottles that we didn’t use anymore, any face cloths that were damaged because they hadn’t been washed in a while (Note to self, next paycheck buy new ones- Ebay?) and just generally sorted. All surfaces got wiped down including the outside of the toilet bowl, the stem of the sink, the pipes behind the loo, the outside of the bath and the skirting boards. Emptied the bin, removed that POS “organiser” from around the stem

Sad week

We’re not having a very good week here in Gloucester. Sunday I was poorly and had to phone into work sick (I’m much better now) and then on Monday we had to have our oldest hamster put to sleep.  He’d been going downhill for the last few days, and when I got home from work on Monday, it wasn’t good, so the kindest thing to do was take him and have him humanely put to sleep, it would only have been a few hours if we’d have left him naturally anyway- best to put him out of his suffering. So then the next day we went back with Rommie the rat. She’s been having real trouble with balance, and she’s got so skinny even though she’s eating. The vet thinks she’s blind, and that it may be a brain tumour or an abscess on her brain. The only way to tell would be an MRI, and the best that could tell us is that there was something there; with a cat or dog there would be options but she’s a small animal and she’s old- Plus at the moment I wouldn’t be convinced that she’d make it through the anaes
